France is one of the largest wine producers in the world and the source of many grape varieties which are now planted across the world. France has many wine regions, some of the more famous being, Champagne, Burgundy and Bordeaux.

The Wines produced range from expensive wines sold internationally to modest wines generally only seen in France.  France has always been the biggest consumer of its own wines, this however is changing as consumption in France is dropping forcing French wine producers to look at export.

Champagne along with other expensive wines have not suffered this problem however they only make up approximately five percent of French production.
